Transportation
At the request of the City and County of Racine, SEWRPC has prepared a short-range, five-year plan for public transit in Racine County. The plan includes recommendations for transit service and capital improvements for both the City and County transit systems over the period 2013 through 2017. The final plan was approved by the plan's Advisory Workgroup (described below) at its June 24, 2013, meeting, and was published in October 2013. The full report, documented in SEWRPC Community Assistance Planning Report No. 286, is available on the right-hand side of this page. A newsletter has also been prepared, which summarizes the final recommended public transit plan.
The preparation of this transit plan was a joint effort by the staffs of Racine County, the City of Racine, and SEWRPC. To provide guidance to the technical staffs in the preparation of this plan, and to involve concerned and affected public officials and citizen leaders more directly and actively in the development of transit service policies and improvement proposals, an Advisory Workgroup was formed that includes representatives from all units of government in Racine County and a wide variety of agencies and populations with an interest in transportation in the County. A list of agencies and organizations invited to participate in the Workgroup may be found here. Meeting agendas, minutes, and materials provided to the Workgroup for review may be found here. The Workgroup was responsible for proposing to the City of Racine, Racine County, and the Commission, after careful study and evaluation, a plan identifying the recommended transit system improvements over the next five years.
Commission staff actively sought participation of the public throughout the preparation of the Racine County Public Transit Plan. The materials and public comments received during the plan development process can be accessed on the right side of this page. The final recommended transit service improvement plan approved by the Workgroup reflects the input received.
