Airports

While Commission activities in aviation planning are currently limited, we previously prepared a Regional Airport System Plan and occasionally assist airports in planning efforts.

Airport Planning

Working with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Aeronautics, the Commission has been engaged in regional airport system planning since the mid-1970s. In 1976, the Commission adopted the first Regional Airport System Plan, which made recommendations for the 11 public-use airports in Southeastern Wisconsin. The Commission updated the regional plan in 1987 and again in 1996 and prepared updated forecasts of aeronautical activity in 2004.

The Commission’s current involvement primarily involves monitoring trends in the level of aviation activity in the Region and assisting with planning efforts in and surrounding the Region’s airports.
