Geographic Information Systems Specialist
The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, the nationally regarded regional planning agency for the seven-county greater Milwaukee area, and the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the five urban areas within Southeastern Wisconsin, has an immediate opening for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist.
About the Opportunity
The Commission is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our diverse team of planners, engineers and specialists focused on addressing issues that transcend the political boundaries and fiscal capabilities of individual communities. This individual will perform a variety of design, analysis, and production activities for GIS projects. This position will report to the GIS Manager under the direction of the Chief Surveyor.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop GIS solutions for planning staff
- Conduct analysis, prepare services/sites, and display and prepare maps for reports
- Perform automated processes supporting geospatial data
- Perform data conversion and documentation for delivery of digital data
- Test, implement, and document procedures for data collection and map production
- Assist in digitizing, data collection and topographic map production
- Carry out general related work as assigned
Core Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in geography, GIS, geospatial science, computer science, or related field required; job-related experience may be substituted for education
- Detailed knowledge of ESRI GIS software and tools (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise)
- Detailed knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Knowledge of GIS editing and automated mapping processes and use of digital planning inventories and web mapping services
- Familiarity with cartography and large-scale base mapping
- Spatial analytical skills, sound judgment, and ability to work independently
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality documents
- Knowledge of GIS-compatible scripting (Python, VBScript, Arcade) is preferred
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $65,000 per year depending upon education, experience, and placement within the organizational structure. A salary exceeding this range may be considered for highly qualified applicants.
