Regional Transportation Plan Review and Approval Process

The final approval of the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) is by the Regional Planning Commission as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the six county Southeastern Wisconsin Metropolitan Planning Area (Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Washington, and Waukesha) and the urbanized areas of Kenosha, Milwaukee, Racine, West Bend, and Round Lake Beach – Wisconsin portion. For its approval, the Commission considers the recommendations of its Advisory Committee on Regional Transportation Planning. This Committee includes representation from the local governments of the Region and State and Federal transportation and environmental agencies. The membership of the Advisory Committee on Regional Transportation Planning totals 35 members and is population proportional. The membership is as follows:

The 35 members of the Committee include local, State, and Federal technical staff and local elected officials (With respect to the four members representing Milwaukee County, three are appointed by the County Executive and one by the County Board Chairwoman and with respect to the five members representing the City of Milwaukee, four are appointed by the Mayor and one by the Common Council President). The Committee includes representation from nine of the eleven public transit operators within the Region – Milwaukee County, Waukesha County, City of Waukesha, City of Kenosha, City of Racine, City of West Bend, Washington County, Ozaukee County, and Kenosha County.
