Sanitary Sewer Service Area Plans

As part its regional water quality management planning function, the Commission works with local wastewater treatment plant management agencies (local units of government, sanitary districts, and utility boards) and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to prepare and update local sewer service area plans. Such plans identify the outer boundary of the area within which sanitary sewers may be extended. The plans also identify the extent of environmentally sensitive lands within the sewer service area. The Commission's involvement in the preparation of sewer service area plans began shortly after the regional water quality management plan was first adopted in 1979. Detailed sewer service area plans have now been prepared for nearly all sanitary sewerage systems in the Region (see List of Sewer Service Area Plans and Map of Sewer Service Areas (PDF)).

Prior to December 2001, the sewer service area plan reports were published only in hard copy form. Since then the Commission has been publishing the reports online in the PDF format. Reports that are available online can be accessed from the list of sewer service area plans.
