Racine Area Transit System Development Plan: 2009-2013
At the request of the City of Racine, the Commission is preparing a short-range 5-year transit system development plan for the Belle Urban System. The Racine Area Transit Development Plan Advisory Committee will have its first meeting on Monday, April 28, 2008 to consider the proposed report outline and the preliminary drafts of plan Chapters I and II.
Study Purpose
This transit system development plan for the Belle Urban System is intended to serve the following purposes:
- To evaluate the performance of the existing transit system including:
- Existing route structure and schedules
- Financial performance
- Areas of efficiencies and inefficiencies
- To identify those transit service needs of City of Racine residents which are not being met, or not being met well, by the existing transit system
- To design and evaluate alternative transit service improvements that address the identified service problems and deficiencies including:
- Modifying or eliminating poor performing route segments or routes
- Adjusting the alignments of existing routes, improving service frequencies and service periods, to improve the overall attractiveness of using the transit system;
- Extending bus service to unserved areas; and
- Implementing initial stage of the transit recommendations for the Racine area in the Commission's adopted year 2035 long-range regional transportation system plan;
