Public Involvement

The Commission will seek to facilitate the active participation of public elected and appointed officials, business and civic leaders, environmental and community groups, and concerned and interested citizens and parties throughout the preparation of the new Milwaukee County Transit System development plan. The transit system plans - alternative, preliminary, and final recommended plans - will attempt to reflect the input received from elected officials and the general public.

The Commission's approach to public involvement will include, but is not limited to, the following:

• The sharing of information in the form of clear documentation of study findings and recommendations.
• Timely public notice of meetings and hearings.
• Opportunities for early and continuing involvement in the planning process.
• Broad public outreach.
• Responsive consideration of public input.

Public Meetings

Public informational meetings will be held at two different times during the study. The first set of informational meetings were held in late February and early March 2007 to present information, answer questions, and get feedback concerning the transit system development plan. A second set of public informational meetings is currently being scheduled and will occur in Fall 2008 to solicit public comment on the proposed transit service improvement alternatives. Information on the alternatives under consideration can be found here.

The following are other ways that interested persons and groups can learn more about the progress of the preparation of the new Milwaukee County Transit System development plan and the issues under consideration, and can share comments and perspectives:

• This website will be a source of comprehensive information regarding the preparation of the new Milwaukee County Transit System development plan. The website includes notifications of upcoming meetings, summary information on work progress, and an opportunity to submit comments. Draft plan materials and Advisory Committee agendas, minutes, and materials will be posted on the relevant portions of this website as they become available.
• Two newsletters will be produced and distributed, including at public meetings and on the study newsletters portion of this website.
• Public meetings will be held at various locations in Milwaukee County. These meetings will provide opportunities to discuss the planning process and issues being considered, and to provide input as well. Meetings will be announced on the study meetings portion of this website.
• Commission staff is available to provide briefings and receive comments from all interested persons, community and other groups, and units of government. If you would like to request a briefing, please contact the Commission staff using the information below.

The Commission is also actively working to involve a broad spectrum of individuals, groups, and interests:

• The Milwaukee County Transit Development Program Advisory Committee will meet throughout the preparation of the new Milwaukee County Transit System development plan.
• The Commission will seek opportunities to notify and inform Milwaukee County residents, and obtain their input. Outreach efforts will particularly be made to notify and inform, and obtain input from, low-income and minority populations – including the African American, Hispanic, Hmong, and Native American communities.
