Specialist - Biologist

The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC), the regional planning agency for the seven county greater Milwaukee area, is seeking a Specialist-Biologist in water and natural resources management. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include field work, water quality evaluations, technical and statistical analyses, technical writing, and project management. Field duties may include leading field crews, field work logistics and planning, gathering water quality and lake ecology field data, fisheries and stream habitat surveys, and fish passage investigations.

Experience or familiarity with PC software for database development and analysis (R statistical software or equivalent), ArcGIS for resource mapping, and all Microsoft products is highly desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are critical to success in this position.  A Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Aquatic Sciences, Natural or Water Resources or a closely related field with three (3) years of related work experience is preferred.  An advanced degree with course work in limnology, stream ecology, hydrology, statistics, chemistry or fisheries with at least one year supervisory experience is desirable.

Environmental Planning Technician

The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission has a summer position for an engineering, natural resources, environmental science, or biology student with an interest in watershed restoration and planning. The Commission conducts watershed planning activities for the seven-county Southeastern Wisconsin Region. Work efforts will predominantly entail field work related to the regional chloride impact study.

Responsibilities will include monitoring equipment installation, onsite field data collection, data acquisition, and data entry and analysis.  Experience and/or class work in environmental sciences, natural resources planning, or aquatic or terrestrial biology is preferred.  The ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and traverse rugged terrain through fields and along streambanks is required.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, ArcMap GIS software, and using a handheld GPS unit is preferable.

The position will begin at the end of the 2018 school year and run through August 2018.
